God’s Word on Philip & Eunuch

After reading through Acts 8:26-40, I came to God:

Father, what is so special about Philip and the Eunuch? I’ve heard the story many times, but what do you have to say about it?

“Philip was revealing truth to the eunuch. He was lost, but then he was found. The Spirit led Philip to him. He wasn’t just any man Philip was loving. He was a eunuch of great authority, a leader, and a ruler. His revelation that came through Philip’s mouth had effected the people of Ethiopia because truth was revealed to him.

“This story sticks out because this is a perfect picture of an open heart. The eunuch had no concept, no understanding of what he was reading. It was his very response that identifies him as sincere: ‘How can I [understand], unless someone guides me?’ Do you see it? He needed someone to help him. It was too hard for him to understand, so he let go, for someone who knew to help him. It wasn’t his strength, his own ability, his understanding. You see…he was open. This is childlikeness; a baby needing someone to feed him milk. Sure enough, the eunuch got milk. He was completely open. That’s why it was so quick for him to believe. It was on good soil that the word spoken through Philip was sown, for he was receptive and poor in spirit. He had need.

“There is a beautiful heart that knows it lacks nothing, but yet still takes on the form of being poor in spirit. This is what you have done. You know the truth, yet you still listen, you are open, you acknowledge that you haven’t figured everything out, but room to grow. It all comes from an understanding of My love, that love that you abide in, and the love that abides in you. It is when the heart lacks nothing, though its cry is, ‘I want to know You.’ The heart matches exactly My heart, that is how one knows My will, how someone knows right from wrong, how one is led by the Spirit – it is their very heart. When the heart is used to being open and sincere, soon enough, the temple, which is you, hears the voice of the Spirit, for they walk in the Spirit. My Spirit is the person of your heart. It is the new you. This is why being led of the Spirit is being led by your heart. You knew that a while back that it was good to listen to your heart, but when you were led astray by another voice, you thought the heart wasn’t right and couldn’t follow it, only for a short time. The enemy doesn’t want people to know that their heart is already established in truth. He is the great liar, and does not like the truth, and so he will do what he can to get a person to close off their heart.

“Jesus took the form of a bondservant. He knew that He lacked nothing, yet He took the form of a servant. He humbled himself.

“You are beginning to understand more and more. And more will be revealed to you as you abide in Me and come to Me. There is a never-ending communion with Me when your heart remains open. You are understanding the ways of rebellion, and the power of a desperate man who needs someone to guide them. Like Philip, you will guide the ones who are poor in spirit into the truth of who they are and who Christ really is and what He accomplished for all. You will spread the good news of the Kingdom. Love will be your conviction and leading. Practice keeping your heart open, and watch My Kingdom come.”
