1 John 3:18 ”My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and truth.”
Who can tame the tongue? Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. This tongue sets on fire the course of nature. Death and life are in this tongue of ours. Are we being slow to speak? What kind of words are we speaking? How do you talk about someone when they aren’t there in the room? Sure they can’t hear your gossip, but you are still either blessing or cursing them by your words. How do you speak about people? People will wrong us, all around us, but how will we speak about them? Coarse joking, slander, condemnation, criticism, judgement, malice, envy, sarcasm, mockery, anger, abusive speech (Col3:8)…what “good” is there in such things? What comes out of your mouth? Let a man examine such things. The people you “speak” about are JUST LIKE YOU. Will you love them AS YOURSELF? Speak less, listen more, and act more. Let the words that come out of our mouths be wisdom, and not empty language.
